Hello! I’m Bethany from Happy Belly Gardening, and I’m here to tell you about my experience getting headshots done with Megpix Photography.
Since I do garden coaching and consulting, I opted to have headshots done "on location," instead of in the studio. I was a little anxious scheduling a headshot session and had been putting it off, but Meg pointed out to me that it would be a good idea to do them while the gardens were still lush and beautiful. Knowing that she was right, I decided to bite the bullet and get my headshots taken!
Meg offers a free consultation with all her photo sessions. We discussed wardrobe options, and I asked questions about hair and makeup. For the majority of the consultation, Meg asked questions about how I wanted to come across in these images. Knowledgeable? Approachable? Kid-friendly? She also suggested possible props I may have wanted to bring.

Since our shoot was to be taken outdoors, Meg suggested we have a shoot in the morning when the natural light would be best for taking portraits. However, I would soon learn that Meg would also bring the sunshine, both literally and figuratively!
One area I made sure to tell Meg about was a particular bit of body anxiety about a body part that shows up prominently in headshots. I’m a plus sized person, and I don’t like the way my neck and chin photograph. We discussed some ways of posing to downplay this area, and Meg also said she would bring a stool in case we needed it for certain angles.
When the day of the shoot came, Meg arrived with several bags of lights and props. It turned out to be a somewhat overcast day, and Meg literally “brought the sunshine” in the form of one of her lights. Since we were taking outdoor portraits, all equipment ran on a battery pack.
Setting up the equipment took a little time, and Meg kept me at ease and involved in the process by talking me through some of the equipment she brought and what it was for.
During the shoot itself, Meg suggested poses and facial expressions. She was quirky and funny (“smell the flower….now pretend it smells like bacon!”).
The shoot went by quickly and was a lot of fun. Next, the photos will be edited and Meg will present them to me when they are ready. I’m eagerly anticipating being able to select my photos. Having seen Meg’s work, I am confident that I will have some excellent options from which to choose, and that will help me promote myself and Happy Belly Gardening in the best light during the upcoming growing season.
